"Achievement Testing"
Iowas vs. TCAPs
Did you know? St. Dominic School gives the Iowa Test of Basic Skills to all first through fifth grades. This is the achievement test used in our diocese and given annually.
Did you know? The test was developed in 1935 at the University of Iowa, with over seventy years of ongoing research.
Did you know? The Iowa Test of Basic Skills is a nationally standardized norm-referenced test. This means that the scores of the students at St. Dominic are compared to children across the nation.
Did you know? There is no statewide administration window for giving the Iowa, thereby eliminating the need to get as many days of teaching in before testing. The publishing company interpolates norms to the week of testing. At St. Dominic, we test in the spring, and we will receive our scores back within 6 weeks.
Did you know? Recently, the Tennessee Comprehensive Achievement Proficiency (TCAP) raised its standards to better align with students nationwide. Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam projected, “If Tennessee students perform (on the test) the same way they did the last time . . . only 25 percent will be considered proficient. That’s a real wake-up call.”
Did you know? The graduating 5th grade classes at St. Dominic School have scored in the 99th percentile 8 of the last 10 years on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills.
Did you know? We’d love to share our excellence with your child.
