Art Curriculum

During the school year students become proficient in the use of various tools including pencil, marker, crayon, glue, and scissors.  The basics of design (line, shape, color, texture, space, value and form) are discussed at all grade levels and incorporated into lesson plans.  The students learn the difference between two and three-dimensional design, they illustrate stories, do printmaking, weaving, collage and mobiles.  They learn about various famous artists from the cave artists and old masters to recent innovators and they learn to do artwork in the styles of the artists they study.  They experience teamwork when they make their class project for the annual church auction.  They are also given the opportunity to work in the style of other cultures. The children enjoy making pictures connected with prominent occasions such as Christmas and Easter among others. The lesson plans are structured according to the grade level and available class time over the course of the year.  Therefore some activities are not available to all grades every school year.
