RESOURCE TEACHER:
MRS. JOANIE HRIVNAK
Mrs. Hrivnak is a native of Alexandria, Virginia and has lived in Kingsport since 1985. She is a graduate of Radford University in Virginia where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education and Early Childhood Education. She also earned her Master of Education Degree from East Tennessee State University, certifying her to teach all areas of special education from birth to adulthood and in regular education grades Preschool - 3rd grade. Her teaching experiences include: learning disabilities, gifted, autistic, multiple handicapped, emotionally disturbed children, and sheltered workshop adults. Before coming to St. Dominic School in 1999, she taught locally at Weber City Elementary and at Gate City Middle School.
"Teaching both children with a learning disability and with giftedness makes for a very exciting day at St. Dominic School. My creativeness is always busy as I think of ways to reach the child with a learning disability and help them conquer an obstacle."
When Mrs. Hrivnak is not teaching, she is busy at home with her husband, Steve, who is a mechanical engineer at Eastman, and with her three daughters: Meg, Sara, and Kelly, all graduates of St. Dominic School. Mrs. Hrivnak loves to travel. She has visited Italy, Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Switzerland, Germany, and Israel.
