Saint Dominic Preschool is an outstanding program for young children. We have a Pre-Kindergarten 3 (PK3) class for 3 year-old students and a Pre-Kindergarten 4 class for 4 year-old students. Grounded in love, following the developmental stages of children, it prepares students for kindergarten and the elementary grades. All children are welcome! All faiths are welcome! Come explore with us through playdough, fingerpaints, and other messy mediums. Our program is very sturctured and designed as a "preschool" program and not a "daycare" program. Your child will perfect his/her sharing abilities with friends, learning how to follow directions, play with others, and delve deeper into pre-academic skills. For decades, Saint Dominic Preschool has been an exemplary school option in Kingsport, helping guide generations of young children into being good students, enthused about learning, and preparing them for kindergarten.
Related Arts Classes: Our Preschool program has the benefit of participating in our Related Arts classes. The purpose of our Related Arts program with our preschool age students is to increase their exposure to these special subject areas from a young age to foster creativity, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning.
Library science where students listen to the best of literature rich in prose, rhyme, and animation. Students can check out books daily to take home to share. Our librarian also incorporates coding and keyboarding into the course work.
Music classes with young students learning rhythms and patterns of music, instruments, and dances. Older students learn the language of reading music by studying the ukulele, chime bells, xylophone, and drums.
Art classes where children learn to appreciate and study the elements of art: line, shape, form, space, texture, value, and color. Their creations are amazing and endless. The walls of our school provide backgrounds for showcasing these masterpieces.
Physical education encourages each to excel to his or her physical potential. Team building skills are taught with appreciation for all capabilities emphasized.
Health class. Our parish nurse enjoys using technology to delve into the bodily functions and systems that are so vital to each of us. She encourages nutrition and exercise, personal safety, fire, stranger, and car safety, plus hygiene and keeping germs at bay.
Special Education Program
Our Special Education program provides an individualized program for children with special needs and assists with students who needs support beyond the scope of the classroom teacher. For our preschool age children, our special education program is key in detecting any possible delays or disorders early so that we can help families address any issue that may arise that can impact their child's learning.
Our facility offers large classrooms with plenty of room to explore; an elementary school size gymnasium and separate preschool playground for gross motor activity; a well-appointed library with a licensed librarian who reads rich animated literature; a loving a free-spirited art teacher who encourages 3 and 4 year-old artisitic expression; and a music room with a licensed music teacher who guides the children in the development of child-friendly music. A hot nutritious lunch is served in the cafeteria where table manners are encouraged. Our "Buddy" program pairs preschoolers with older students in the upper elementary grades. Together they become fast friends sharing books and making crafts. Our elementary students attend mass twice per week. Starting in the second quarter of the year, the PreK-4 class starts attending special masses with the goal of regularly attending mass before the end of the year.
Come see why we are special.
